Then you need your phone unlocked. Please read on. Mobile phone unlocking - what is it and why would I want my phone unlocked ? An unlocked phone is one that can be used on all networks operating on the frequency it was designed for. For example, in the UK there are four main networks, Vodafone, BT Cellnet, Orange and T-Mobile. Vodafone and BT Cellnet / O2 operate on GSM900, while Orange and T-Mobile operate on GSM1800. A UK dual band mobile phone can operate on GSM900 and GSM1800, therefore being capable of working on all networks. However, the networks don't want to lose your custom, so when they supply the fone (on contract or pay as you go) it can be locked to accept SIM cards from their network only. If you wish to use your phone with a SIM Card from a different network, the phone needs to be unlocked. How do I know if my phone is locked? There are two ways to check if your phone is unlocked. Firstly, if you have a working SIM from a different network, try putting it in your phone and switching it on. If the phone works and you can make calls on that network, congratulations, your phone is already unlocked. If a message appears, saying "SIM card not accepted, insert correct sim card" or similar, it will need the sim lock removing. Mobile phone unlocking service Why unlock a phone? You provide us with certain easy to find details of your phone : the type, the IMEI number, the country and network it is locked to. We use these to calculate an unlock code which we send to you either by email or text message (your choice). Follow the instructions we provide to enter the unlock code into your phones key pad, and the phone will be immediately unlocked. Simple. back to the questions Q. Do I require any technical knowledge? A. None at all. We provide full and easy to follow instructions for entering the unlock code that we provide to you. It is entered into the phone using the phone's keypad. back to the questions Q. Will unlocking my phone damage it? A. No. All unlocking the phone does is remove the network lock and sim lock that are entered into the phones software when sold to you by a network provider. It may however invalidate the phones warranty under certain providers, and we advise that you check if this a concern to you. If you enter the code we provide to you incorrectly 5 times, then the code will no longer work, and you will need to send us your phone to be unlocked. If you do this and it is as a result of us giving you incorrect codes, then we will unlock the phone for free, and refund your money. If it is as a result of your error, then unfortunately we will have to charge you $30.00 US for the process, in addition to postage and packing. back to the questions Q. What information do I need to give you? A. You need to provide the model of the phone, the 15 digit IMEI number of the phone, the country in which the network is provided, and the name of the provider. We have lists of all countries and providers for you to chose from. Then all we need is either an email address to send the unlock code to, or alternatively a mobile phone number for us to send a text message to. back to the questions Q. How do I find out my phones IMEI number? A. Easy,enter *#06# on your phone's key pad and the 15 digit number will be displayed on the screen. Alternatively you will find it on a label on the back of your phone, underneath the battery. The IMEI number is the International Mobile Equipment Identifier, a 15 digit number that uniquely identifies your phone. The unlock code will be generated from this and so it is very important that you provide us with the correct code. If we do not have the correct IMEI number, we cannot generate the correct unlock code. back to the questions Q. Do you guarantee my phone will be unlocked? A. If your phone is one of the compatible Nokias then yes, we guarantee we can unlock your phone. If we cannot unlock your phone, then we will provide you with a full refund.
